  • Valari Staab has been promoted to chairman of NBCUniversal Local, becoming the first executive to hold the title.

    Mark Lazarus, Chairman of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, announced the move. Staab, a broadcast TV veteran, joined NBCU in 2011 to head the company’s station group. Along the way, she had added oversight of Telemundo stations and regional sports networks to her portfolio.

    Her areas of oversight will not change as part of the promotion and it is not part of any wider exec reshuffling. Staab had most recently been president of NBCU Local.

    Valari Dobson Staab is Chairman of NBCUniversal Local, a division of NBCUniversal that is home to three local media groups: NBC Owned Television Stations, NBC Sports Regional Networks and the Telemundo hållplats Group, as well as multicast networks COZI TV, LX News and TeleXitos.     Growing up in Angelina National Forest in rural Texas, where her parents owned a lakeside marina and campground, Valari Dobson Staab never thought about working in television. She barely even thought of watching television. 

    “We only got reception occasionally, usually because some weird storm was surfacing,” she said. “TV was not a big part of my life, and it was not something I planned on doing at all.”
