Early History
[edit]In , Meiling Jin was born in Guyana to parents of Chinese ancestry. She has one sibling, a twin sister. Despite her parents' background, Jin did not visit China for the first time until For the first eight years of her life, she lived and was raised in Guyana. In June , Jin's family fled the country due to the unstable politics and moved to London, England. Jin's family left Guyana two years before it achieved independence within the Commonwealth on 26 May Her father had travelled first, and the rest of her family followed.& • Her unlikely story began 22 years ago in the Liaoning Province located eight hours north of Beijing on the border of North Korea and Siberia, Russia. When she was 2, her parents got divorced and because her mom was a migrant worker Jin lived with her maternal grandparents. For the first 15 years of her life, Jin was only able to see her mom once a year during the Chinese New Year holiday when all migrant workers were able to take time off. Jin has never had any contact with her dad and doesnt have any memories of him. I always wondered why my dad never wanted to know me and it was hard to see other kids with their dads.
