Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, also known as Swatantryaveer Savarkar, Vinayak Savarkar or simply Veer Savarkar in Marathi, was a freedom fighter and an Indian independence leader and politician who coined the Hindu nationalist ideology of Hindutva. The date of birth of Savarkar is May 28, 1883, and died on February 26, 1966. He was a prominent figure in the Hindu Mahasabha. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar[a] (28 May 1883 – 26 February 1966) pronunciationⓘ was an Indian politician, activist and writer. Savarkar developed the Hindu nationalist political ideology of Hindutva while confined at Ratnagiri in 1922.[2][4] He was a leading figure in the Hindu Mahasabha.[5][6] The prefix "Veer" (meaning 'brave') has been applied to his name by his followers.
