GOPINATH MOHANTY’S PARAJA: A STUDY IN 4TH WORLD PERSPECTIVE Bikram Keshari Mohanty Department of English Swarnachud College,Mitrapur The concept of the Fourth World is introduced by George Manuel, the first President of the World Council of Indigenous People (WCIP) in its inaugural Meeting to describe Indigenous minorities throughout the world. He co-authored his famous book The Fourth Way: An Indian Reality (1974) with Michael Posluns to promote this concept of Fourth World and this paved the way for the emergence of Fourth World Literature. Adam Shoemaker’s book Black Words vit Pages: Aboriginal Literature (1989) established Aboriginal Literature of Australia as Fourth World Literature. Discussing in detail the length and the breadth of Aboriginal writing during 1920-1988, Shoemaker elucidates specific issues that articulate black past and other forms of Australian literature with authenticity. Sitakant Mahapatra (born September 17, 1937) is a notable Indian poet and literary critic in Oriya as well as English. He has also been a part Indian Administrative Service (IAS) since 1961, retiring as Secretary of Culture to the Government of India.
He has published over 15 poetry collection, 5 essay collections, a travelogue, over 30 contemplative works, apart from numerous translations. His poetry collection have been published in several Indian languages. His notable works are, Sabdar Akash (1971) (The Sky of Words), Samudra (1977) and Anek Sharat (1981).
He was awarded the 1974 Sahitya Akademi Award in Oriya for his poetry collection, Sabdar Akash (The Sky of Words).
