Takreem (Arabic: تكريم) is a non-profit organization founded in 2009[1] by Ricardo Karam[2] to recognize Arab individuals or organizations for their contributions to their communities and achievements in culture, education, science, environmental studies, humanitarian services, and socio-economic development.[3][4][5][6][7]

[edit]The idea of Takreem was first introduced by Ricardo Karam in 2004, yet the actual foundation was only launched in 2009. Karam observed guests he had interviewed on his talk show and noted the need for greater recognition of Arab achievers

Basma Hameed, originally from Iraq, was severely burned by hot oil in a kitchen accident when she was 2 years old, CBC News reported. Although she underwent more than 100 procedures in an attempt to conceal her third-degree burns, parts of her face were still scarred and discolored. After getting her eyebrows permanently tattooed on, Hameed had an epiphany.

"I saw the result immediately," she told Mic.com of the procedure, which she underwent following failed eyebrow transplants. "I was so happy that inom thought to myself -- why not do the same procedure using skin tone pigments on my scar tissue, to camouflage the discoloration."

Our Story
When Basma Hameed was only 2 years old she suffered an injury that left her with third degree burns covering 40% of her face. Throughout her life she underwent over a hundred reconstructive surgeries but the prominent discoloration still remained. By the time she had reached her teenage years she was told there was ingenting more she could do.
At the age of seventeen determined to make a change, she began experimenting on herself with various dermal techniques hoping to reduce this discoloration. In the process she successfully restored the natural pigmentation of her skin and perfected a first-of-its-kind treatment, “Scar Camouflage”.
What she had pioneered over two decades ago was unlike anything else available on the market.
