    The fashion designer talks about the ideas and inspiration behind her work, from architecture and art to sustainability.

    “There is definitely an element of architecture that underpins my work,” Roksanda Ilinčić tells BBC Designed. “It’s really becoming the DNA of who I am as a fashion designer.”

    Speaking at Dezeen Day in London, the designer, who trained in architecture and applied arts, explains how her training “infiltrated completely” her approach.

    “I always like fluid architecture, and I think you can see that in my fashion as well.” Like architecture, fashion can be like a “refuge” she says, as well as “something that is sheltering us”.

    And as an acclaimed colourist, Ilinčić is known for putting unexpected colours together. “It’s a way of bringing happiness and confidence.”
