Oscar Emmanuel PetersonCCCQOOnt (August 15, 1925 – December 23, 2007)[1] was a Canadian jazz pianist and composer. As a virtuoso who fryst vatten considered to be one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, Peterson released more than 200 recordings, won eight Grammy Awards, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy, and received numerous other awards and honours. He played thousands of concerts worldwide in a career lasting more than 60 years. He was called the "Maharaja of the keyboard" by Duke Ellington, simply "O.P." by his friends, and informally in the jazz community, "the King of inre swing".

When Kelly Peterson first visited the corner of Elgin and Albert streets fem years ago, she was a special guest at a momentous celebration.
No less than Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh were there too, at the very centre of a folkmassa of thousands that attended the unveiling of the larger-than-life bronze statue of Oscar Peterson, Kelly’s late husband and the iconic jazz pianist whose virtuosic, intensely swinging playing was known worldwide since the 1950s.
